Israel Houghton Bass Tabs For “All Around”

Recently I’ve been getting a lot of requests from my brothers and sisters for some Israel Houghton Bass Tabs to be posted to the blog…

Well today you’re in luck…

I just prepared a quick little video (and the bass tabs to go along with it) that teaches you, note by note how to play the super slick bass intro our boy Terence Palmer was playing on the hit song “All Around”…

This is one of the more requested Israel Houghton Bass Tabs we’ve been getting asked for recently so I decided to start here but you can look out for a lot more to hit the blog…

Basically the intro for this song is played over a basic I-IV-V progression in the key of E-flat… (If that is “Greek” to you, you might wanna take a quick look over here…)

The bass part that T.P. is playing is based around notes mainly from the major chord arpeggios and while at first the line might sound a bit “complex” once we break it down you’ll see that for the most part you really only need to get like 5 different “phrases” under your fingers and you’re good to go.

Anyways…

Watch the video, enjoy the tab, and post a comment below and let me know what other Israel Houghton Bass Tabs you’re looking for.

    • alexsampson says:

hey Scott, yeah man at the end of the day we’re all playing the same 12 notes. So I think there’s just about every style of music out there. Keep listening and thanks for the comments. Peace!

  4. James McKoy says:

This is the kind of thing that I signed up for which makes my membership to all the other programs by you worth while to me.

I am interested in gospel and the bass tabs really really helps beginners and intermediate players who just want to be able to play some songs and not necessarily rock with a band and understand all the theory.

I wish that the gospel bass DVD came with tabs.

  5. Martin Dailey says:

    Hi Alex

Thanks so much for all you do for the bass community. The video is just great, you make it look soooo easy :¬) Terence Palmer is one of my favourite gospel bass players right now. His slap Intro to “Trading my sorrows” is awesome (on New Season CD) I have seen people try to copy it, but none have come close or really nailed it, but I am sure you could do it :¬) I am sure A LOT of the bass community would appreciate you showing us how to play that intro .

    All The Bass!

    • alexsampson says:

Aww shucks Harold, now you got me blushing… lol – Slap bass is not really my forte but I’ll take a listen see. I do know the song you’re referring to and you’re right T.P. is the man!

I’m a novice older bassman with a real busy schedule, so I don’t have a lot time to sit down and pick songs out note by note. Love ya stuff, keep on blessing me as well as others.

Alex, a “Thank You” goes out to you for the help you are providing to us as future Bass Players and wanting to reach a higher level in our playing. Tabs are a good start and they help to keep down some of the frustration and keep me motirvated until I develop that ear of all intervals. Please give me more TABS. I agree with James, I wish you could do another version of the Gospel Bass Player DVD with TABS. Many thanks, and keep up the great work…..God Bless!!

  10. Johnny says:

Hello Alex!! I really enjoyed that tab section. I had put down my bass because I was getting upset because I was not learning nothing. I thank you along with the other bassplayers for how GOD is using you. Keep up the good work and be Blessed!!! Thanks!

  11. chris says:

  12. teddy says:

just the right staff i needed to see. thanx a lot brother and God bless!

  13. Manfred says:

This is a quite interesting type of a bass line. It is totally melodic and if it is played slowly, it sounds
like a popular african song. And if it is played fastly, its sounds like a repeated bass run. It is quite busy
and does not sound typically like an african bassline. However if you simplify it and punch out half of half
of the busy notes, then you will get a typical african bassline. If it is played relaxed with palm muting, it might even sound better in band context.
But anyway, an excellent example for what you can make out of such a piece of music.

    Manfred

    • alexsampson says:

hey Manfred, thanks for stopping by… yeah you’re right we can take this one line into so many different directions! Blessings!

  14. Mike says:

Thanks for the slick breakdown. Do you think that you can add more TP stuff, like “What If” from his solo album. Thanks again for the great work. BGS got me out of a 26 year rut!

    • alexsampson says:

Hi Mike, muchas gracias senor… I know of TP’s solo album but now that you mention it I never really checked it out… Will have to vibe on some of the songs. Peace and thanks for the reminder.

  15. Brian says:

Alex, you are commited to something that you love & do extremely well. I appreciate you sharing, in lesson form what you do. I am happy with what you decide to put on your sight. I like all kinds of music. When you respond to what you say that many have requested …I figure I must have the same taste as all those that make a request 🙂 I have yet to see anything less than quality. Thank-you for sending an e-mail with your latest Isreal Houghton.
